SPRING AND SUMMER 2008 CHILDREN'S ART CLASSES & WORKSHOPS

Find a place for your six-year old to get a taste of painting like the masters or for your pre-teen to create their own unique work of art. Children's classes focus on building skills and imagination, learning and having fun. Animals, color and shapes, and crafts, are all part of the ever-changing Children's' Art Program.
No Classes May 24 - 26 or July 3 - 4.

Ages 5 – 8

Multi-Media Adventure – This class if full of surprises because each day you will use a different art medium in a different way. It may be clay, paint, pastels or pencils – you won’t know until you arrive! But you can be sure you will create some awesome paintings, drawings and two-dimensional art.

Story Art Vacation Workshop - Many of our favorite books have beautiful pictures created by storybook artists. Using a variety of art materials we will make art inspired by stories read in class and the artist’s pictures in the books.

Paint Like Famous Artists - Learn about famous artists and have fun creating works of art using the materials and techniques that they used.

Pet Portrait - Animals are so much fun - especially when you get to draw and paint them. Each day you will pick a different type of animal to create using paint, pencils or clay. Bring in pictures of your favorite animal, insect or sea animal as inspiration.

Sea Animals - Sea creatures come in many different shapes and sizes. Some fly, some swim and some walk. Have fun drawing and painting different kinds of animals found by the sea or from your imagination. Experiment with a variety of art media, including paints, sand and more.

Let’s Make Art - Everyone loves to paint and draw. Each day we will work with different materials to create a wonderful work of art using our favorite subjects for inspiration. What will you create each week? Come and find out!

Clay Creations - Clay is a great medium for making 3-dimensional works of art. Animals, beads, sculptures and more can be created using baker’s clay and air-drying clay. Decorate your creations with paint, glitter and materials from nature.

Ages 9 - 13

Exploring Art Media - This class gives students the opportunity to work in different media to create two and three dimensional works of art. Class time will be given to explore drawing, painting and sculpture (with air-drying clay). Students can work from still life, photos and their imaginations.

Drawing Studio - Using a variety of drawing media, students will focus on a different fundamental of drawing each week, including proportion, perspective, shading and line quality. This class is open to teens and adults also.

Painting Studio – Working with acrylic or oil paint, students will work on developing their painting skills. Students can explore both painting medium during the class or focus on a specific medium. Instruction will be provided on painting techniques, color theory and composition. Landscape and still life subjects will be explored.

Art Around the World - Artists throughout the world are inspired by their culture, native materials and surroundings. Learn art styles and techniques that are popular in North America, Europe, Asia and beyond.

Teens - Middle & High School

Drawing & Painting Open Studio - Students develop their skills and style working from a still life, their own conceptual compositions or photographs using the medium of their choice. The first two classes will focus on drawing using pencils and colored pencils. Students will select a medium (oil, acrylic, pastel) to produce a finished work from their drawing. Bring an 11” x 14” drawing pad, 2B pencil and a kneaded eraser to the first class. This class is offered as part of the Tuesday Adult Open Studio during the Summer.
